C.J. the Beaver will be hosting Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ first fishing tourney tomorrow, April 11, 2020.
The Fishing Tournament begins at 9am and runs until 6pm. C.J. will appear in front of Resident Services with his own fishing booth and a collection of coolers.
The Fishing Tournament rules are relatively straightforward. All you have to do is catch as many fish as you can in 3 minutes. Each fish you catch nets you 1 point. Catching three or more fish will give you 2 bonus points. After the three minutes are up, C.J. will count your total fish and bonus points.
You can enter the tournament and repeat this process as many times as you want before the tournament ends at 6pm. Your first entry is free, but every entry after that will cost 500 bells.
The fish you catch will automatically go to C.J.’s cooler at his booth, so you won’t have to worry about inventory space. After C.J. counts up your total points, you have the choice of selling all the fish you caught in that tournament session to C.J. C.J. will buy them at 50% more than what Timmy and Tommy will so it’s a great way to make bells and pretty much guarantees your next entry into the tournament every time.
You can also take out whatever fish you want to keep from the cooler in case you caught something you’d like to keep or donate to the museum.
You can also exchange the points you get for special fish-themed items. Each item costs 10 points to get.
There are also special bronze, silver, and gold trophies for achieving certain point totals throughout the tournament. The bronze trophy is 100 points, the silver trophy is 200 points, and the gold trophy is worth 300 points.
We do have some tips to maximize your fishing tournament experience. Thanks to New Horizons’ breakable tools, make sure to craft plenty of fishing rods to use throughout the tournament. It would be a shame to lose valuable fishing time crafting a fishing rod during a session.
Make sure to craft plenty of fish bait as well. You don’t want to waste time running around your island looking for fish when you can guarantee that a fish will spawn in whatever area you use the bait. Using fish bait also ensures that you won’t end up catching a Bunny Day egg.
Fishing tourneys happen once every season, so make sure to get those fishing rods and fish bait ready for primetime.
